Materials:

Worsted weight #4 yarn

Scissors

Darning needle

J- Hook for body

7(4.5) hook for brim- other option to make brim in instructions.

Notes:

The hat is worked from the bottom up

Sizes are adjustable and worked in multiples of 4 (four)

HDC 3rd Loop is the same as BLO

Ch1 at beginning of each round DOES NOT count as a stitch

Special notes:

Rounds 3 & 4 are the crochet “arrow stitch” (tutorials can be found on YouTube)

Round 4 requires a ch 1 and turning the work so that the round is worked on the “wrong side”.

This is the only round that will be worked as such

In round 4, Work the DCs in front of the TC bar that is created but not over it,

make sure that you can see the “arrow” being formed by the TC bars from rounds 3 & 4.

The top section of the hat is essentially the Alpine Stitch without the sc rounds

Round 11: DC in the same FPDC as the ch 1. Don't finish the stitch. With 2 loops on the hook,

FPDC into the next DC from the round below, you will have 3 loops on the hook.

YO and pull through 3 loops. This is the DC/ FPDC 2tog

For the BODY:

Create a 3” wide brim with a preferred method.

Suggestions for brim:

Knitting

Tunisian Crochet knit stitch

FCHDC and HDC 3rd loop

Foundation Chain HDC Brim:

To make the FCHDC:

1. Start with 3 chains on hook.

2. Yarn over, and then insert hook into the first chain/3rd chain from hook. Yarn over and pull up a loop.

You should have 3 loops on your hook.

3. Yarn over and pull up through the first loop on the hook <- this creates your first “chain stitch”.

4. Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook <- this completes your first foundation half double crochet stitch!

5. To create the second half double crochet stitch, yarn over and insert hook into the “chain stitch”

you created in Step 3.

6. Yarn over and pull up a loop to create your next chain stitch.

7. Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook to complete your next half double crochet stitch.
